Counting calories can be helpful so that you don’t over eat. However, this isn’t what is ultimately going to help you lose weight. You need to pay attention to the food you are eating more than anything else.
Why Counting Calories Isn’t Everything
Counting calories can be important. In fact, your doctor likely has a recommended calorie count for you based upon age, gender, and current weight. Plus, if you’re more active, you should be eating more calories than someone who is more sedentary because you’re burning more and need the energy that comes from calories.
However, calories need to be from the right foods. If you eat 300 calories worth of donuts, it’s not as healthy as if you were to eat 300 calories from fresh fruit or a piece of white-meat chicken. This means you really have to pay close attention to what you eat. Otherwise, your calories are empty and you’re not giving your body what it needs. You could be consuming way too much sugar or carbs – and that’s what’s going to hinder your weight loss.
Establishing a Balanced Diet
You can look at the food pyramid in order to get some help with how to create a balanced diet. This means taking from all areas – grains, fruits, vegetables, dairy, and protein. This, combined with proper portions, can make a big difference in the way your body functions, and how you’re able to lose weight.
If you are staying within your calorie count every day, but you aren’t eating a balanced diet, you aren’t getting the proper level of nutrition. Particularly if your calories consist of saturated fats and processed foods, you aren’t delivering enough nourishment to your body. It may be why you are feeling sluggish and experiencing high levels of fatigue on a daily basis.
Use a tracker that asks you what you’re eating in terms of proteins and starches and fruits and vegetables. This will help you to decide how you are going to allot your calorie count on a daily basis. Once you start doing this, you may find it’s easier to lose the weight because you’re giving your body the necessary fuel.
