Increasing your fitness level is one of the best ways to stay in good health. If running isn’t for you and you can’t seem to make it to the gym on a regular basis, it may be time to consider something else – such as team sports. There is a significant amount of excitement involved, whether you choose hockey, football, baseball, or one of the many other team sports.

Choosing the Right Team Sport for You

There are a ton of team sports out there – some are played indoors, some are played outdoors. Some focus on upper body strength, while some focus on lower body strength. You may need to play a few different sports before you find the one that works best for you.

Some options include:

  • Ice hockey
  • Football
  • Baseball
  • Basketball
  • Soccer
  • Field hockey
  • Lacrosse
  • Rugby
  • Volleyball

Take a look at where they’re played, what’s expected of you, and the rules of the game. Depending on where you live, some sport may be more readily available than other parts of the country.

Practice Makes Perfect

Practicing is something that will happen likely two or three times a week, if not more. It is what will help you to burn calories and work harder. You will get the camaraderie with your teammates, and have another reason to burn calories. Especially if you hate going to the gym, this can be the way to stay physically active throughout the week.

Find a local team and see if you can get on it. If there is no team or there isn’t room for you, there’s always something to be said about going out and getting some people together and starting your own. It can be a lot of fun and with the internet, you should be able to find enough team members in no time.

The Feel of Victory

Participating in team sports means that there is a winner and a loser. When you win, there is a sense of victory. The competitive nature in you may come out, and it may be another way to gain motivation. Even though you are burning calories and becoming more physically active, you also want to participate because you like the feel of winning.

Find a team sport you want to participate in because you will love it, not because that’s what’s going to help you get fit. That will be an added benefit.
